Free Rail from Lloyd Center to Downtown

Map of Max from Lloyd Center to Pioneer Square

MAX between Lloyd Center & Pioneer Square

Here’s another cool thing about Portland.

If you want to travel from Lloyd Center to Pioneer Square, you can use mass transit and you don’t have to pay.  It’s free.  I think that is cool, something to get excited about.  It doesn’t work just for people that live in the Lloyd District.  It works for everyone.

The light rail car goes between Portland’s largest mall and downtown, across the Steel Bridge.  No cars.

In between the Lloyd Center and the tall buildings along the freeway (84), there is a busy Mass Transit station.  All the light rail is labeled by color.  You can take the red, blue, or green rail line system to anywhere in the “Free Rail Zone” (formerly Fareless Square) and not pay a thing.

Free.  If you didn’t get that, it is freeFREEFREE!

For me, it works to go to Pioneer Square.  There are lots of things in Pioneer Square, including a Starbuck’s Coffee (they’re everywhere, they’re everywhere!).  Nordstroms.  The Courthouse.  Food.

Or you can make the reverse trip.  Anytime.  Free.  Go to the Lloyd Center.  Portland’s largest mall.  Free.

If you have a bike, ride your bike to the stop, carry your bike aboard, put it in the section for bicycles, and ride inside the ‘fareless’ area and exit.

Don’t forget your bike.
