The Merrick in the Lloyd District

The Merrick in the Lloyd District

Almost every time I’ve looked at an apartment building, I end up wondering where the tenants park.  As a result, I decided to visit a place that I knew had a parking garage.

The Merrick.

I realize some buildings have names.  It seems weird, though.

The Merrick is located at the intersection of Martin Luther King Junior and Multnomah.  Multnomah heads toward the Steel Bridge.  The other two streets that make up the block are 3rd ( Third ) and Wasco.  I should put whether they are streets, avenues, or boulevards but the truth is – I don’t know which is which and what is what, though I am pretty sure MLK is a boulevard.

My memory (insert your verb of choice).  Anyway, it’s inadequate.

Tenants enter the parking garage in the back or the side – on 3rd or Wasco.  When I went by there, it was interesting because someone was coming out as I was walking by.  I could have ducked inside.  I’m not a criminal, of course.  All inside doors are probably locked, anyway, and I’m a good guy.

I have a cane.  Anyone with a cane is a good guy.  Right?

Nearby is Burgerville (I still haven’t eaten there), Red Robin, La Quinta Inn, the Ambridge Event Center, Courtyard by Marriott, one of the Legacy hospital outlets, and a mostly grass park that doesn’t seem to be taken care of very well.

The ground floor of the Merrick is for business.  Remedy Temp, Subway, and John L. Scott (a real estate firm) are in the building.  I think there are five floors of apartments.  There is a courtyard in the middle.  It is filled with trees and probably hedges, bushes, flowers, and more.  It looked green.  That’s all I can tell you because I didn’t see it.

The owners are now leasing.  I’m pretty sure they hoped to sell everything as condos, but the economy conspired against them.

The Merrick is also fairly new.  Some have a view inland.  Others can see downtown or the river.  All or some can see the courtyard.  The apartment on the southwest corner has tall walls and at least one of those is mostly made of glass.  Whoever owns that apartment or penthouse (whatever it’s called) probably has the best view in the entire Lloyd District.
