Word Press vs. Expressions Web
Not everyone will understand what I’m talking about and others will be far beyond anything I could think to say, but I have to figure out what program to use when creating pages for LloydDistrict.com. Right now, I use WordPress.
WordPress is a blogging platform that lots of people use to create web pages. The website creator writes a new post and people can comment. Old posts automatically go to where they have to go. There are words like categories, trackbacks, permalinks, tags, and an entire new vocabulary and jargon to learn.
Expressions Web does it a little differently. It’s a WYSIWIG editor, which stands for “what you see is what you get.” After you learn about cascading style sheets and master documents, the thing that is cool about it is that you can see the “tree” of all the pages and folders in a web site.
I like that.
Instead of “My Documents,” I preferred Microsoft’s File Manager. I realize that Microsoft thought the “My Whatever” system would be less confusing (and perhaps it is to most people). It’s not great for me.
Back to web pages – I understand Search Engine Optimization (SEO), the power of links, page titles, descriptions, headings, data near the top of the pages, and so on. How does the web site fit together in WordPress? I have to learn. I’m torn between something new and…
…the alternative.
Not that Expressions Web isn’t new to me – I have to learn more about how that works, too. See, I started to learn Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML), but FrontPage and DreamWeaver came along and were easier. I changed my focus. However, a regular web page – I understand how that meshes with the rest of the web site.
When I needed programming in databases or computer language? I had Tim – my partner at RealEstateABC.com. He’s looking at a new site now. I’ll help.
