Farmers Market in Oregon Square

Lloyd District Farmer's Market

Lloyd District Farmer's Market

I mix up time and forget things, so I’m not exactly sure when this happened, but on some unspecified date I went to the Lloyd District Farmer’s Market.  I walked to Oregon Square (which is right about 800 Holladay – the Red, Blue and Green light rail runs right by) and there was a sign on the gate.

The sign said the Farmer’s Market was held on Tuesdays.

It was Thursday.

Later, I went back I went back on a Tuesday and they did have a Farmers Market, but there was a new sign.  That sign said they have Farmer’s Markets on Tuesday and Thursday.

I was stuck in a Twilight Zone episode.

It felt that way, anyway.

The Farmer’s Market was a large covered area that kept out rain or sun, restrooms were nearby, and just across a wide sidewalk were lots of molded plastic tables with plastic chairs for those that chose to get lunch.  The non-plastic crowd could sit on wooden benches with no table.

Until they ran out, the “hot” place was the crepe stand.  Many people stopped to purchase crepes filled with interesting stuff.  Then they sat down and ate before dashing back to the office.

I wasn’t tempted to join the lunch crowd.

The Farmer’s Market had regular stuff, too – mushrooms, nuts, live plants, strawberries, pastries, pies, vegetables, and…

…flowers.

All Farmer’s Markets seem to have flowers.  I don’t get that, but I have to chalk it up to the fact that I’m a guy and will never understand.

Hanging on a rail of the metal fence is a lock.

Pedestrians gain access to the park via a gate in the metal fence on the south or north end.  Why is there a lock?  Do they lock the park at night?  Do they lock it when there is no Farmer’s Market?  Do they lock it because homeless people may use the restrooms or steal the plastic tables and chairs?

Who has the key?

Who locks the gate?

I need to go back.  Actually, I need to go back and pay attention.
