Oregon State Liquor Store
I took this picture to write an article about the Liquor store in the Lloyd District. I know, I know. I know what you’re thinking (actually, I don’t know what you’re thinking). Just in case you’re thinking I drink a lot, I don’t. I don’t drink at all. I had a couple of beers…
…I think it was at Thanksgiving a couple of years ago.
I don’t do drugs, don’t smoke, only have two cups of coffee each morning, gave up iced tea, but…
I do drink Dr. Pepper. I’m working on it, though.
I even wear a Medic Alert ID bracelet “just in case” I fall down and go boom again. That way people will know it is my heart or my head and not something else.
The state Liquor store is in between Broadway and Weidler on about… …Seventh (7th)? (I can never remember the cross-streets).
The reason I mention the Liquor Store is because it is important. You can buy wine and beer anywhere, but spirits? That has to come from the liquor store and there is only one in the Lloyd District.
When I was young, I drank a lot of beer. Sometimes I had Jack Daniels with a beer. I lived in Kentucky and if you were in a local bar and ordered liquor besides bourbon or whiskey, customers and the bartender or barmaid looked at you funny – like you messed with the jukebox and chose classical music instead of Country & Western.
In fact, I lived in a dry county. You had to cross the county line just to sit in a bar and buy a beer.
So the liquor store in the Lloyd District is important. If you don’t drink spirits, you may not think so, but if you do? You have to go there, so it’s important.
Oo-rah!
