The ‘Watch Your Head’ Sign on Weidler
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the tallest man on earth was 8’11.1″ (eight feet, eleven and one-tenth inches) tall. That man is dead now. The tallest living man is a paltry 8’2″ (eight feet two inches) tall.
He’s not tall enough to bump his head on this sign.
I realize the sign is actually meant for motorized vehicles and it didn’t take a clever witty mind to think it up, but – I still like it.
It’s the ‘clearance’ sign for the Burger King drive-thru. Burger King is right next to McDonald’s. That seems weird, doesn’t it? Back when I was young, I managed Burger Kings and the owner said, “Burger Kings make more money when there is a McDonald’s on the same block.”
I think putting a Burger King near a McDonald’s must have been a marketing strategy back in the “Have it you way,” days of Burger King. I like my burger best with ketchup, pickles, and onions on it. I order it the same way at Burger King, Carl’s, McDonald’s, In-n-Out, Fatburger, Burgerville, or anywhere else.
When going through a drive-thru back in those heady fast food days, a McDonald’s salesperson would say, “Can you pull off to the side and wait over there?” (like an idiot). Burger King let you, “Have it your way.” No waiting.
Between McDonald’s and Burger King, guess which one I chose? Come on, guess. I changed when Carl’s Jr. came up with the Western Bacon Cheeseburger.
To tell the truth, I don’t visit fast-food restaurants that often, but occasionally, I do love a hamburger. My favorite in Portland is the…
…I’m not telling.
Which brings me back to the Guinness Book of World Records. Remember? It was created for drunk men in bars who argued about unimportant trivia while drinking Guinness Stout.
(I really doubt that’s true because I just made it up).
